Things have been a little tough for Captain America fans lately. It’s been a crazy roller coaster ride as readers have followed the events of Marvel’s Secret Empire. Steve Rogers has done some pretty outlandish things thanks to Hydra and a cosmic cube, but things aren’t always as they seem.
When Captain America was first revealed to have been secretly loyal to Hydra for years, many readers were outraged. Because this is comic books we’re talking about, we should always expect the unexpected. Whenever the status quo of a character is drastically changed, it’s a sure bet things will eventually revert to normal…or as close to normal as possible.
Secret Empire isn’t over yet. This week’s issue had a big development, which we’ll look at shortly. For now, readers can celebrate as Marvel announced its 53rd Marvel Legacy title, Captain America #695, with a lenticular cover featuring a homage cover by Alex Ross based on the classic 1979 Iron Man #126 cover by John Romita Jr. and Bob Layton.
Who will be the creative team for the series?
Mark Waid and Chris Samnee will return Steve Rogers to the front and center of the Marvel Universe. The two creators have recently done an amazing job on Daredevil and Black Widow and are continuing their collaboration.
While the lenticular cover is a homage, could it be possible Steve will go back to his classic outfit and will regain possession of his shield? We’ll have to wait until Marvel releases some interior pages. Captain America #695 will be released in November.
