There may be some changes coming for Nightwing, but it sounds like some things will definitely stay the same. DC has announced that Benjamin Percy (Green Arrow, Teen Titans) will take over writing duties in May.
How will he approach the character? Here’s what Percy had to say:
“The best way to approach NIGHTWING is as a high-octane, adrenaline-fueled mystery and adventure. I’m going to crank up the volume on that world, dose it full of steroids and poison, and dream up a digital nightmare that will ultimately impact the entire DCU.”
Percy will be joined by artist Christopher Mooneyham. The first story arc, “The Bleeding Edge,” is said to be a game-changer and will lay the groundwork for a big threat to the DCU. Because Nightwing often works separate from the other heroes, he’ll be the perfect person to take on the case.
According to DC,:
“In this arc, change is on the horizon when a new technologist sets his sights on Blüdhaven, creating a holographic, interconnected city where everyone is an individual and part of a larger network. It’s the internet made physical. Gentrification on gigabyte-laced steroids. But when this new utopia encroaches on his turf, Nightwing starts to uncover a sinister plot based not on revenge…but on a reckoning.”
Percy’s run begins with issue #44, on sale May 2. Along with Declan Shalvey doing the cover, there will be variant covers by Yasmine Putri.
The other question is: What about current Nightwing writer Sam Humphries? Guess we can assume there’ll be an announcement soon on his next project at DC.
