The X-Men Mourn A Death In The Family In X-Men: The Exterminated

If you read Extermination #1, you’re aware of the X-Man who was killed. Death is nothing new to the mutants. Many have “died” and returned over the years. With this death, we did see part of the body and Jean Grey telepathically felt the death as it occurred.

So what happens next?

In the pages of Extermination, we’re still seeing the killer move about with their plan. Marvel has announced a mourning issue, X-Men: The Exterminated, due this winter. If you haven’t read Extermination yet (and HERE is why you should), there will be a spoiler as to who was killed in the image below!

This is your final warning.

Seriously, the dead body is right on the cover below.

That’s right, Cable is dead. Who killed Cable? If you’re reading Extermination, you know. It’s kinda crazy. Could it actually be called murder?

With Cable’s death, his adopted daughter Hope Summers has to figure out how to deal with his loss. If things weren’t tough enough for her, she has to resist going down a dark path. It turns out Jean Grey may be the only one that can help her.

The creative team for the issue will be Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler with art by Neil Edwards and others. The special one-shot issue will say goodbye to the time-traveling mutant and also feature a back-up story celebrating the life of Nathan Summers written by legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont.

Nadler had this to say about the one-shot:

‘This issue is our chance to say a proper farewell to Cable, to honor his legacy, and to really see the immense impact the time traveling mutant had on those closest to him. Most importantly, it’s about how the Summers family copes with grief, and the difficulty of forging ahead. The issue is packed with fan favorite X-Men from all different eras, and we’re super excited to be bringing them together, despite the somber occasion.’
