Jonathan Hickman Returns To Marvel And Takes On The X-Men

A few days ago, Marvel announced the return of Jonathan Hickman with a simple teaser.

No other information was given…until today at C2E2 during Marvel’s Next Big Thing Panel.

Not only is Hickman coming back, he’s shaking things up in the X-Men’s corner of the Marvel Universe. House of X and Powers of X are two miniseries that begin in July. Marvel mentioned milestone eras in the X-Men’s history with this marking the “next seminal moment” in their history.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, take a look at the promo art by Mark Brooks.

If you look carefully, you can see there’s some serious craziness going on. At first I thought Nightcrawler somehow lost his blue fuzziness, but he can be seen next to Professor X.

You can see Wolverine is back as Weapon X even though he’s also in his current classic brown and tan outfit.

What the heck happened to Magic? Why does she seem to have her brother Colossus’ metal transforming powers?

There also appears to be at least two Jean Grey’s (with Rachel as Dark Phoenix) and two Storms. And why is Havok a little kid?

According to Marvel:

“These two new series – written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Young Gun Pepe Larraz, R.B. Silva, and colorist Marte Garcia – will build from every major X-Men milestone since 1963 up through the current X-Men series and storylines fans know and love, including some of Marvel’s most iconic characters from over the decades. Each series will be released on an alternate weekly schedule, starting with HOUSE OF X, followed by POWERS OF X. Fans will be able to follow along each week this summer and witness history unfold.”

So many questions. What do you think of all this? What other strangeness do you see?
